Full Day Fishing Adventure in Sanibel's Waters

Get ready to spend a full day on the water with Hookin' Snook Charters, exploring the rich fishing grounds around Sanibel, Matlacha, and Pine Island Sound. This 8-hour trip gives you plenty of time to target a variety of inshore species and even venture out to some nearby reefs for extra action. Whether you're chasing that inshore slam or just want to bend some rods, we've got you covered. Our 22' Bay boat is perfect for navigating these waters and can comfortably fish up to 3 anglers.

What to Expect on the Water

We'll kick things off early, meeting at the dock as the sun's coming up. After a quick rundown of the day's game plan, we'll head out to where the fish are biting. Depending on the season and what's running, we might start by working some mangrove shorelines for snook, or hit some grass flats for redfish and trout. As the day heats up, we can run to some nearshore reefs to target snapper, grouper, or maybe even some cobia. The beauty of a full day trip is we've got time to mix it up and chase whatever's hot. All the gear you need is provided, so just bring your hat, sunscreen, and maybe a lucky lure if you've got one.

Techniques That Hook 'Em

We use a variety of fishing methods to put you on the fish. For inshore species like snook and redfish, we'll often use live bait under a popping cork or free-lined near structure. When targeting seatrout, light tackle with soft plastics can be deadly effective. If we venture out to the reefs, we might switch to bottom fishing with cut bait or jigs. Throughout the day, I'll show you the ropes and help you dial in your technique. Whether you're a seasoned angler or it's your first time holding a rod, we'll have you catching fish in no time.

Top Catches This Season

The waters around Sanibel are teeming with gamefish, and what's biting can change with the seasons. In the cooler months, we often see big schools of redfish and some monster snook lurking around oyster bars and mangroves. As things warm up, the tarpon start rolling in, offering a chance at the "silver king." Seatrout are pretty consistent year-round, and they're always a fun, light-tackle target. When we hit the reefs, you never know what might show up - could be some tasty mangrove snapper or a bruiser goliath grouper that'll test your arms and your gear.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Snook: These hard-fighting linesiders are a fan favorite around here. They love to hang out near structure, ambushing bait as it swims by. Snook can grow to over 40 inches and put up an acrobatic fight when hooked. They're most active in the warmer months but can be caught year-round if you know where to look. There's nothing quite like the "snook slam" when one of these silver rockets hits your bait.

Goliath Grouper: These massive fish are the tanks of the reef. Growing up to 800 pounds, hooking into one of these giants is an experience you won't forget. We practice catch and release with goliaths, but the photo op alone is worth it. They tend to hang around structure and wrecks, and when they decide to eat, hold on tight!

Tarpon: Known as the "silver king," tarpon are the ultimate gamefish for many anglers. They start showing up in our waters in late spring and stick around through summer. Tarpon are famous for their spectacular aerial displays when hooked, often launching completely out of the water. Landing one of these prehistoric-looking fish is a true trophy, with some pushing well over 100 pounds.

Permit: These elusive fish are a real challenge, even for experienced anglers. They've got excellent eyesight and can be incredibly picky eaters. We typically target them around flats and reefs using crabs or small jigs. While they're not the biggest fish in the sea, permit put up an impressive fight for their size and are considered a real prize catch.

Cobia: These curious fish often show up around structures, buoys, or even following large rays. Cobia are known for their strong runs and can grow to over 100 pounds. They're great eating too, so if you're looking to bring home dinner, cobia is always a top choice. We typically catch them using live bait or large jigs, and the fight is always memorable.

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

Folks come back to fish these waters year after year because there's always something biting. The diversity of species means every trip is different, and you never know what you might hook into next. Plus, the scenery around Sanibel and Pine Island Sound is hard to beat. You might see dolphins playing in our wake, manatees cruising by, or ospreys diving for their lunch. It's not just about the fishing - it's the whole experience of being out on these beautiful waters.

Time to Book Your Spot

If you're itching to get out on the water and tangle with some of Florida's top gamefish, this full-day trip is the way to go. We've got the local knowledge, the right gear, and a comfortable boat to make your day on the water one to remember. Whether you're looking to check some species off your list, learn some new techniques, or just enjoy a day fishing with friends or family, we've got you covered. Cobia

Cobia

Goliath Grouper

Tarpon are the silver kings of our waters, growing up to 8 feet and 280 pounds. These prehistoric fish migrate through our area in spring and summer, following bait schools in coastal waters and passes. You'll often spot them rolling on the surface. Tarpon fishing is all about the thrill - they're known for spectacular aerial displays when hooked. The fight can last over an hour with bigger fish. We typically target them in 10-30 feet of water near passes and along beaches. Live bait like crabs or pinfish work well, but artificial lures and flies can be effective too. When you get a bite, remember to bow to the king - lower your rod when they jump to prevent the hook from pulling free. Landing even one tarpon can be the highlight of your fishing career.

Goliath Grouper

Permit

Cobia are bruisers that will test your tackle and stamina. These brown torpedoes average 30-50 pounds but can top 100 pounds. We find them around structure like buoys, wrecks and reefs, often in 20-60 feet of water. Spring and fall are peak seasons as they migrate. Cobia are curious fish - they'll often investigate boats or even swim right up to you. Anglers love their hard-fighting nature and excellent table fare. Live eels or pinfish are top baits, but big jigs work well too. A local trick is to keep a ready rod with a bright jig to cast if you spot one. When you hook up, be ready for some powerful runs and even jumps from bigger fish. Landing a trophy cobia is always a memorable catch.

Permit

Snook

Snook are one of our most popular inshore targets, and for good reason. These hard-fighting fish average 24-36 inches but can reach over 4 feet. You'll find them around mangroves, docks, and other structure in our shallow waters. Snook season peaks in spring and fall when water temperatures are ideal. Anglers love 'em for their acrobatic jumps and strong runs. Plus, they're excellent eating when in season. To entice a bite, try working a soft plastic jerk bait or live pinfish along mangrove edges during an outgoing tide. Keep your drag set light - these guys pull hard! Snook can be finicky, so stealth and accurate casts are key. Once you hook up with one, you'll see why they're considered one of Florida's premier gamefish.

Snook

Tarpon

Permit are one of the most challenging and rewarding fish to catch in our waters. These wary, disc-shaped fish average 15-25 pounds but can reach 60 pounds. You'll find them tailing on shallow flats or hanging around nearshore wrecks and reefs. Spring and fall are prime seasons as water temperatures change. Anglers prize permit for their spooky nature and powerful runs when hooked. Sight fishing for them in skinny water is an adrenaline rush. Live crabs are the top bait, but well-presented flies can work too. The key is a stealthy approach and accurate cast - these fish have incredible eyesight. When you hook one, hang on tight and be ready for some scorching runs. Landing a big permit is a true trophy, so we always release them carefully to fight another day.
